Former WAFU-B champions Edo Queens Football Club of Benin will on Wednesday November 26th, 2025 begin campaign for the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership title.
Recall that Edo Queens FC ended last season without a trophy and will kickoff the campaign for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) new season in a do or die away cracker against the current defending champions Bayelsa Queens FC in an all star opening match of the season.
The explosive match will take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Kickoff time is 4:00 pm local time.
Football being a game of emotion, passion, intrigue, interest and a meeting point for divers people, Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens have a lot in common when it comes to the round leather game.(NWFL premiership). This two NWFL giants are seen as threat to each other base on their track records in recent times. They have had a running battle since the inception of Nigeria Woman Football League NWFL.
Each time they confront each other in a competitive showpiece, is either Edo Queens carries the day or Bayelsa Queens. It has always been a tough battle. But in this epic clash on Wednesday, Edo Queens will condemn the ‘Prosperity Girls’ to defeat in Yenagoa.
History has also proven Edo Queens FC to be a household name in the annals of Nigerian woman football, hence every hand is on desk to ensure the success of the team.
Being the star game of the new season, football pundits in Bayelsa and across expect nothing but a level playing ground where players will have an opportunity to showcase their skills. As a team known for their resilient spirit they will always have a degree of control in their game no matter the rating of their opponent.
The club is not ready to record any failure in this season, their target is to be in top flight from star to finish and possibly be crown champions at the end.
As top rivals, in the 2023/2024 season, Edo Queens beat Bayelsa Queens right in front of their teeming fans to win the league. Also in the just concluded maiden edition of Governor Diri Douye Women Football Pre- Season Tournament held in Bayelsa State, Bayelsa Queens managed to edge out Edo Queens through penalty shootout by 4-2 in the semi final after playing 0-0 at regulation time. The Benin City based ladies have never been scare of Bayelsa Queens. The girls have promised to return fire for fire in this opening star match of the season. Edo Queens, management and fans across the globe, expect nothing less that a win in this cracker.
Again, for the past four premiership seasons, this is the first time Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens are in the same group. Nevertheless, the Benin Queens are equal to the task. They are not afraid of any team, they are ready to give their opponents a big run for their money.
For Moses Aduku tutored side, the target is to win the league and fly the Nigeria flag at the continental scene, hence the State government , management team, players, supporting staff and the fans are working assiduously hard to make sure that the team emerge champions at the end of the season.
