…says Gov Obaseki wants team to maintain momentum
The Executive Chairman, Edo state Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli has expressed delight in the superlative performance of Edo Queens Football Club at the CAF Women’s Champions league Zone B qualifiers as they finished tops in their group with hundred percent record.
The Edo Sports Commission boss said he was impressed with the girls’ exploits on their debut CAF engagement. He was speaking while reacting to the Benin girls’ 1-0 victory over Omnisports Etincelle, encouraging them to keep the momentum as they face host team in the semifinals.
” I congratute our girls. They have been spectacular since they started the CAF champions league preliminaries in Cote D’Ivoire. Our Governor is pleased with their results and performance so far and charged them to keep the momentum and bring the cup to Benin. ” Alli enthused.
Edo Queens pipped Etincelle 1-O in the last game of Group B of the WAFU Zone B CAF champions League qualifiers on Saturday evening to wrap up their unbeaten run and qualified for the semifinals. Joy Jerry’s first half goal sealed victory for Edo Queens.
The reigning Nigeria Premier league Champions started their campaign in faraway Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire with a 5-0 pounding of AS Garde National of Niger Republic before hitting Hasaacas Ladies from the former Gold Coast – Ghana 3-0 in their second group outing.
The 1-0 win over Omnisports Etincelle of Burkina Faso ensured the Benin Girls finished winners of the group ahead of Omnisports Etincelle who also made it to the semifinals, scheduled for Monday inside Stade De La Paix in Bouake.
