Emem Essien, of Edo Queens Football Club of Benin this afternoon scored her 3rd goal of the ongoing NWFL Super six competition at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagua, as Edo Queens loss 2-1 to Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in a high density game.

Rivers Angels got the opener in 9th minute of the kickoff through a goalkeeping error from Edo Queens’ goalkeeper Ijeoma Ozoma, due to slippery field as a result of early morning rain.

in 28th minute through a defensive error by Edo Queens defender resulting to an own goal. Puting the score line at 2-0.

Edo Queens didn’t give up they came fighting hard and in the course of that struggle Emem Essien, got an assist in 39th minute and with a well- struck right- footed shot from 40 yards that caught Rivers Angels goalkeeper Ademola Morufa, napping. She has so far netted in three goals in the competition.

Score line was 2-1 as the referee whistle sounded for half time.
There was actually no dull moment in the game as both teams kept mounting pressure on each other.

Back to the second half both teams came in with a lot of vigor looking aggressively hungry for more goals, with both coaches shouting their voices out dishing out instruction to the players. The captain of Edo Queens Abideen Suliyat, was doing all the midfield work putting on impressive performance while mathematical Osigwe Goodness, did all she could to score but Rivers defenders were alive to their responsibilities not ready to concede any more goal.

Emem Essien also put a well- cushioned header into the net but was disallowed as the assistant referee already raised her flag for offside positioning.
A brilliant pass from Osigwe Goodness to Emem Essien in the centre of the penalty box which would have levelled up the scores was emphatically missed. Also Edo Queens won a foul few yards from the penalty box just few minutes to the end of the match, Chioma Olise went for the ball took a bullet shot that hit the wood work. Edo Queens players were exceptional in this match just that luck was against them. The players were highly commended by the teeming fans at the Stadium for putting up a good performance.

Despite losing narrowly to Rivers Angels, the entire team did wonderfully well. They have now shifted attention to their next game against Heartlands on Wednesday.
They now have three points from two matches.

In a post match interview, coach Moses Aduku, of Edo Queens said:

“Well the game has come and gone, we fought hard and we loss. We will go back and work on the three remaining game, hope is not lost, we are still very much in the competition three more games to go”.

On his style of play he said: “When you are looking for goals you play to coach instructions, my girls put the ball on ground you don’t expect them to play the pattern of their opponents. I have problems with my goal keeping department we are going back to work on that area.
For the next game we are coming out to play. We are not scared of any team, we are fully prepared and ready to win the remaining matches.”
